Legends from the Nonprofit Crypt

Join Jessica Aviva for Legends from the Nonprofit Crypt, a shadowy tour through the nonprofit underworld as she conjures short stories from the haunted halls of community work – where good intentions go to get gaslit and overworked. Each episode unearths a deliciously dramatic short story inspired by the real-life absurdities of doing good in a broken system. If you’ve ever been voluntold, undervalued, or asked to “just tweak the theory of change by 5 p.m.,” you’ll love these sweet revenge fantasies. Spoiler alert: each story ends with poetic justice and a glimmer of the impact we all thought was possible back when we still believed we could change the world. It’s storytime for burned-out change agents with a ridiculous sense of humor who are in desperate need of catharsis.

Our podcasts are spaces for honest conversation, courageous imagination, and collective learning. We invite guests who would like to reflect openly about their experiences, challenge dominant narratives, imagine new possibilities, and explore what it means to cultivate more loving and liberatory ways of leading, organizing, and being in the nonprofit sector and beyond.
We are especially interested in conversations rooted in lived experience, thoughtful practice, bold experimentation, and curiosity. You don't need to be an expert or have all the answers.
Step 1: Apply
Complete the guest application and review the podcast agreement. This helps us learn about your work, your perspective, and the ideas you'd like to share. Submitting an application does not guarantee an invitation to appear on the podcast.
Step 2: Connect
If you're selected, we will reach out to you to schedule a chat with host Jessica Aviva, Ph.D. This conversation may happen immediately before recording or several weeks in advance, depending on scheduling and your personal preference. We will use this time to get to know each other, explore the themes you would like to discuss, co-create a roadmap for the conversation, and create the conditions for a conversation that feels authentic, expansive, and alive.
Step 3: Record
Before recording, we'll spend a few minutes settling in, chatting, and making sure you feel comfortable. We don't expect perfection, polished sound bites, or carefully crafted personal brands. We value honesty over expertise, curiosity over certainty, and presence over performance. You are invited to come as you are, speak from lived experience, stay curious, and create space for learning. The natural conversation flow will be intentionally preserved. Pauses, laughter, moments of reflection, and evolving ideas are part of what makes these conversations meaningful.
Step 4: Share
Once your episode is scheduled, we'll let you know your release date and provide everything you need to share it with your community including links, promotional graphics, and suggested copy.
